Passing the Time: A Glimpse Into Seafaring Life Through the CAM Library & Archives' Collection of Ships' Logs

The Cape Ann Museum Library & Archive holds a collection of seventy-three ships' logs covering voyages from the late 1700's to the 1900's. Along with shipping and voyage information, many of the logbook keepers also left records of their creative pursuits through illustrations and sketches, songs, and botanical specimens, to name a few.

The E.L. Rowe & Sons Sail Plans and Photos

This exhibit shows sail plans that date back to as early as 1893 and up until the time of their closure, all originally designed by the company E.L. Rowe & Sons for various vessels

Capturing the Gloucester Fishing Fleet: The Photographs of Peter Prybot

In his book White-Tipped Orange Masts, Peter Prybot wrote that he knew he wanted to be a fisherman when he was only eleven years old. His fascination with fishing led him to write his college biology thesis on the Gloucester fishing fleet in 1970. 

Urban Renewal and the Fitz Henry Lane House

Today, more than 150 years after artist Fitz Henry Lane's death, the house he built on Duncan’s Point in Gloucester still remains. Through documents, photographs, and architectural blueprints, this exhibit reveals how a group of passionate citizens and civic leaders worked for nearly two decades to save and repurpose the house between 1958 and 1977.
